Jennifer Lawrence and art dealer Cooke Maroney got married in style over the weekend at a venue fit for Hollywood’s most glamorous guest list. The couple, who began dating in 2018 and announced their engagement back in February, wed before 150 guests at the extravagant Belcourt of Newport in Newport, Rhode Island, an estate that dates back to 1894.

Designed by renowned American architect Richard Morris Hunt, the property was inspired by the grandiosity of Louis XIII’s hunting lodge at Versailles, and has quite the history. It was originally commissioned by Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont (the son of financier August Belmont), who was such an avid lover of horses that he had the stables and carriage house placed on the first floor of the home. When Oliver fell in love with and married his neighbor Alva Vanderbilt, the chateau received a significant makeover, with the ground floor repurposed to make it more suitable for social gatherings. The grand staircase was rearranged to be convenient for guests and the carriage room converted into a banquet hall. However, another unusual detail still remains part of the house: On the second floor, the master bedroom opens right into a ballroom with a large pipe organ that looms over it.

The home stayed in the Belmont family for several decades, until it was sold to George Waterman in 1940. He hoped to turn the mansion into a car museum, but when that proved futile, he sold it to Edward Dunn, who used it as storage for his military equipment. It was then passed through the hands of two more families—the Lorillards and the Tinneys—before it was finally sold to its current owner, Carolyn Rafaelian, the founder and CEO of Alex and Ani, in 2012. Rafaelian has since put millions of dollars into restoring the mansion to its original grandeur, including on fixing its ornamental plasterwork, and has been adding modern touches like solar panels on the roof as well.

On Saturday, Kris Jenner, Adele, Amy Schumer, Emma Stone, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Cameron Diaz, and Sienna Miller, among other stars, were on site to watch Lawrence and Maroney exchange vows. The night before, a smaller circle of their close friends—including Adele, Diaz, Richie, and Madden—dined at the private dining room of Scarpetta at nearby Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina, where many of the guests stayed for the celebratory weekend. The rehearsal dinner took place on Rose Island, with all the guests hopping onto private water taxis to and from the secluded venue.
