So, who hasn't yet visited Atria Mall, the new Mecca for restaurant and party-goers? The revival of the old mall has lead to the mushrooming of several new eateries, stores and even gaming arcades. A fresh, new restaurant recently opened, offering the promise of great good, good interiors and a memorable time. Happy Thai, an 85 seater, 2,650-square-feet space, designed by Sarah Sham of Essajees Atelier truly, does not disappoint.

Happy Thai, Mumbai: A Robust Team

The restaurant has emerged as India's first indigenous authentic Asian fast-casual dining chain. The space is the brain child of entrepreneur Aditya Kilachand, who has put together a vibrant team of Samir Chabria as CEO, Chef James Biaka, Executive Chef of Happy Thai and by Chef Run, who hails from the Blue Elephant Culinary School (Royalty of Thai Cuisine).

Happy Thai, Mumbai: A Unique Concept

The idea for the interiors originates from the Thai society elephants, who have played a big role in manual labour, war and tourism. For Happy Thai, Sham envisioned the elephant as the granddaughter of a well-known, royal elephant—she's caring, happy and free. In her design story, the elephant walks through the jungle, and chances upon friendly people. Her walk through this particular village is what the interiors of the eatery feel like.

Happy Thai, Mumbai: Special Elements

For the interiors, the design team stuck to a few basic elements like cane, wood, and greenery. Brass and cement flooring help lift spaces. “The furniture was all custom made by Essajees. We made bright, upholstered chairs to add an element of fun; we also introduced  sleek cane chairs,” says Sham. Lush greenery and hanging plants can be seen all throughout the space. The canopy overhead the diners is a combination of Sham's favourite tropical plants—Areca Palm and Travellers Palm.

Happy Thai, Mumbai: Unparalleled Dining

For those who visit and revisit Asian bistros and are enthusiastic about the cuisine, will find this destination a refreshing change. The food is a compilation of Thai and Japanese favourites. The bowl meals, delicious starters to even the drinks speak of a carefully curated, well-designed, well-priced menu. Among the starters, the Crispy Brussels sprout stand out—a usually belch-worthy green that's made so differently, you'll want to ask for more. The zucchini carpaccio too is worth a try. Don't skim through the menu too quickly—indulge in their maki rolls (we recommend the prawn tempura maki) or the Avocado roll. Take your leisurely pick with the mains (we suggest the ramen or the sticky rice with Thai curry) and conclude the meal with one of their in-house ice creams.
