The French Consulate is a heritage site at the corner of Rue de la Marine and Goubert Avenue. All work related with French administration takes place here. Every year on July 14, which is the French National Day, the Consulate hosts celebrations, the highlight of which are the splendid fireworks on the beach promenade. The Consulate General of France at Pondicherry is certainly one of the most environment friendly diplomatic missions in India, despite the fact that the building is nearly three centuries old.

Le Foyer Du Soldat, Rue Law de Lauriston

It is an old colonial building situated on Rue Law de Lauriston, serving as a legion hall for local retired soldiers who fought for France in a number of wars abroad.

Institut Français De Pondichéry (French Institute of Pondicherry), Rue Saint Louis

Established under the terms of the Treaty of Cession of French Territories in India, the French Institute of Pondicherry was inaugurated on March 21, 1955. It was engaged, under the leadership of its first director (Jean Filliozat), in the study of Indian civilization and culture, and more particularly in the history and the religions of south India.

Indian poet Bharati sought refuge in Pondicherry between 1908-1918 when he was a evading arrest by British soldiers in Chennai. The house where the poet once stayed in, was acquired by the government in 1972 and opened to the public in December of the same year. The memorial museum-cum-research centre showcases all photographs concerning Bharati — his manuscripts, books, the journals he edited.
