Controversial political comedian Bill Maher coming to Sioux Falls Washington Pavilion

Bill Maher is coming to the Washington Pavilion.

Television and comedy star Bill Maher will bring his stand-up act to Sioux Falls when he performs at the Washington Pavilion this summer.

The Washington Pavilion announced Monday afternoon that Maher, known for his political commentary show Real Time on HBO, will perform on Sunday, Aug. 18 as a part of his Live Stand Up Tour.

"For more than twenty years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television," according to press release.

Maher rose to stardom in the 1990s with his show “Politically Incorrect,” and has hosted Real Time for the last 14 years.

"Maher’s combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs" have earned him 41 Emmy nominations, and he won his first Emmy in 2014 for his executive producer role on the HBO series Vice.

Maher began his career as a stand-up comedian in 1979 and is a New York City native.

Tickets go on-sale for Washington Pavilion donors Wednesday, Pavilion members and subscribers Thursday and the general public Friday.
