Miscommunication leads cops to swarm man who peed on Sioux Falls bus

Police arrest a man for disorderly conduct on April 16.

Authorities say a heavy police response to a man accused of public urination was due to a belief that he may have been armed.

Six squad cars and an officer on a motorcycle swarmed the area near West 10th Street and South Minnesota Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police took one man into custody shortly after scanner traffic describing a man who had urinated on a city bus and then pulled out a pistol.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens said the man had announced he was going to urinate on the bus, and then did so on the bus's tire. Clemens said the man was not armed, and it was unclear why it was believed the man may have been armed.

The man was taken into custody for disorderly conduct.
