The City of Sioux Falls is asking residents to limit water use after record precipitation is causing above normal flows in the sanitary sewer system.

The water use restriction is in effect until Friday night.

The city is also asking residents to make sure sump pumps are draining outside the home and not in an internal floor drain.

Sioux Falls received 1.42 inches of rain through noon Wednesday, according to the NWS. Total precipitation of 17.35 inches through noon Wednesday is a record.

To report a sewer backup, call the Public Works Water Reclamation Division at 367-8198.
