Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre will headline this year's annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner and Children's Charity Fundraiser in Sioux Falls, the group announced Tuesday.

It will be the first time Favre has given a public speech in South Dakota, said Scott Abdallah, the co-chair for the event.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Brett Favre has accepted our invitation to speak to our men and women in law enforcement this year," Abdallah said in the announcement. "This is a rare opportunity for law enforcement to meet a true football legend."

Favre, Abdallah added, has agreed to a question-and-answer format during the dinner, which will take place on Nov. 13.

During his 20 seasons in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, Favre won 11 Pro Bowl selections. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to throw 500 touchdowns and pass for more than 70,000 yards. He is the only player to win the league's MVP award for three consecutive seasons.

He now lives in his home state of Mississippi, where he was a four-year starter at quarterback for the University of Southern Mississippi.

This year will be the 38th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner, which was started by former U.S. Marshal Gene Abdallah. The event over the years has drawn big names as speakers, and Favre won't be the first member of the NFL Hall of Fame. In 2015, Minnesota Vikings great Alan Page spoke at the event.

About 2,000 people from across South Dakota attend the event, which honors law enforcement officers and raises money and bicycles for children. Limited tickets remain for $50 each. Those interested can call 605-941-0054.
