A body in a submerged car found in the Missouri River on Tuesday has been identified as a woman missing from Pierre since 2017.

Corinne Faye White Thunder, 30, was last seen in Pierre in December 2017, Capt. Bryan Walz of the Pierre Police Department said.

White Thunder's disappearance was not reported to Pierre police, Walz said, and her name does not appear on the National Crime Information Center's list of missing persons.

Police have not disclosed how White Thunder died or whether her death is considered suspicious. Her body was discovered after South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks noticed the submerged car near the exit of Down's Marina in Pierre.

Police say White Thunder's body appeared to have been in the water "for an extended period of time."

White Thunder's case is still under investigation, Walz said. Anyone with information is asked to call 605-773-7420.
