A 36-year-old Sioux Falls man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after authorities say his blood-alcohol content was five times the legal limit.

A 36-year-old Sioux Falls man was arrested Saturday near Canton after the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said his blood-alcohol content was five times the legal limit.

The man, who has not been named, was allegedly driving recklessly on U.S. Highway 18 near where it intersects with S.D. Highway 11.

Witnesses said the man drove off the road and into a field before driving back onto S.D. Highway 11, where he almost struck a vehicle head-on, the sheriff's office said.

A Lincoln County deputy arrested the man after he allegedly crashed into a ditch. The man was taken to the hospital for observation before being taken to jail, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Authorities say the man's blood-alcohol content was 0.418, more than five times the legal limit of 0.08.

"This arrest is disturbing for us to report on," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. "We are very thankful that nobody was injured during this incident."
