Dr. Lornell E. Hansen of Lazaderm has been appointed to American College of Phlebology's Healthcare Advocacy Committee. The Healthcare Advocacy Committee provides strategic direction to College leadership, and directly advocates for members, in the areas of Federal and state policies, reimbursement, coding, carrier relations, vein education, and practice management.

Scott Price has been promoted to regional manager of investment and fiduciary services for Wells Fargo Bank. In this role, Price manages the investment strategists and fiduciary advisory specialists in greater Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Robbie Arend has joined Wells Fargo Bank as a senior investment strategist.  Arend brings more than fifteen years of experience and also holds the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation.

The American Red Cross has named Patty Brooks as the new executive director for the Eastern South Dakota Chapter. Prior to Red Cross, Brooks’ career has included work in federal government as a state government division director, and executive director of two local non-profits – The Compass Center, formerly known as the Rape and Domestic Abuse Center, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls. Brooks graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in political science and criminal justice. 

First Premier Bank in Sioux Falls has promoted Kip Schmidt to the position of personal banker. Schmidt is a native of Sioux Falls and has been with the bank for 13 years.

Bob Sutton, president and CEO of Avera Health in Sioux Falls, was chosen as the fall commencement speaker at Dakota State University. Sutton is a former president of the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Dale Uttecht of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Sioux Falls has won two awards from the company. He won the firm's Ed Armstrong Award for his exceptional achievement in building client relationships. He also received the firm's Goodknight Plan Completion Recognition Award. The Goodknight Program enables an incoming financial adviser to work with a veteran financial adviser in a mentoring relationship.

Xcel Energy was recognized by PA Consulting as the recipient of the 2018 ReliabilityOne Award for Outstanding Reliability Performance in the Plains Region. ReliabilityOne Awards are given annually to the utilities that have achieved outstanding reliability performance and have excelled in delivering the most reliable electric service to their customers.

The City of Dell Rapids and Golden West Telecommunications received a Smart Rural Community designation from NTCA, the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association. The NTCA Smart Rural Community designation recognizes and celebrates the efforts of rural telecommunications providers and their communities to deliver technologies that make rural communities vibrant places in which to live and do business.

Soybean farmers from Minnehaha, Hutchinson and Moody Counties are the winners of the 2018 South Dakota Soybean Yield Contest. The contest is sponsored by the South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council and managed by the South Dakota Soybean Association.

Doug Van Duyn, Minnehaha County, placed first in the overall contest, yielding 113.94 bushels with Hefty: 19R6R2; Tim Hofer, Hutchinson County, placed first in the master class yielding 109.12 bushels with Legend: LS28X840; Brady Johnson, Moody County, placed first in the youth class non-irrigated category, yielding 78.5 bushels with Integra: 51629N and Samuel Bender, Hutchinson County, placed first in the youth class irrigated category, yielding 74.84 bushels with LG: 1870R2.
