After a 5-year hiatus, a popular Sioux Falls event is back.

TEDx Sioux Falls is scheduled for April 11 and tickets went on sale Friday. Thadeus Giedd is the new local license holder for the event, set for the Museum of Visual Materials at 6:30 p.m.

"TED is a global brand and is a platform that should be in our community," he said. "I love all things TED Talks and want them to be present in Sioux Falls so we can not only view them on video, but attend an awesome one-night event in person."

Giedd says attendees should expect a "fun upbeat atmosphere in a packed house" at the museum for the event, which is an independently organized version of the TED talk format (hence the "x").

While the speaker list isn't yet finalized, Giedd said to expect a range of topics with a "diversity of inspirational, learning, innovation and discovery."

Tickets are $30 and Giedd says there is a limited number available, via the event's website: www.tedxsiouxfalls.com. If you're interested in applying to be a speaker, applications are open, also on the event's website, for a limited time.

"My theme, that won’t influence any of the talks, is Pride in a Little-city Big-town," he said. "Which Sioux Falls is and it is an amazing dynamic if we own it and have unity pride in."
