Michelle Harpe is is now affiliated with Principal Financial Group in Sioux Falls as New Business Consultant, Principal Securities Registered Representative, where she will be working closely with advisers and staff to help the flow of new business processes from beginning to end. Harpe brings more than 5 years working in the insurance and financial services industry to the Sioux Falls team, most recently serving as private staff to an adviser at the business center.

Matthew Wallum is now affiliated with Principal Financial Group in Sioux Falls as a Financial Representative. Wallum brings more than 13 years working in the insurance and financial services industry to the Sioux Falls team, most recently serving as a financial representative independently.

Kevin Gleason is now affiliated with Principal Financial Group in Sioux Falls as Senior Financial Representative, Principal Securities Registered Representative, Financial Adviser. Gleason brings more than 9 years working in the insurance and financial services industry to the Sioux Falls team, most recently serving as Associate Managing Director for the business center.

Dave Burke has joined Keller Williams Realty Sioux Falls as a broker associate. Burke and his wife, Trista, have partnered together as The Burke Group.    

Cissy Buhler has joined Keller Williams Realty Sioux Falls as a broker associate.  Buhler has joined the Tony Bachman Group and has years of experience in the real estate world in Phoenix, Fargo and Sioux Falls. 

Chad Theisen has joined Keller Williams Realty Sioux Falls as a broker associate.  Chad has spent the last few years working for Caring Transitions.   

Misty Hofer has joined Keller Williams Realty Sioux Falls as a broker associate. Hofer has been a licensed agent since 2018 and resides in Harrisburg with her husband and two boys.  

The following members of the Insurance Professionals of Greater Sioux Falls were named at the 2019 IAIP Region V Conference of the International Association of Insurance Professionals:

  • Samantha DeBates, Senior Account Manager, American Trust Insurance, Sioux Falls was named Insurance Professional of the Year. The award recognizes excellence among those who have been employed in the insurance industry a minimum of ten years;
  • Carrie Patterson, Insurance Agent of Schwebach Insurance, of Dell Rapids, was named Client Service Professional of the Year. The award recognizes excellence among those whose primary responsibility is in a service capacity with internal and external customers;
  • Nachole Gillis, Client Adviser of Howalt-McDowell Insurance, A Marsh & McLennan Agency of Sioux Falls, was named Rookie of the Year.  This award recognizes a new member who has made significant contributions to IAIP within the first 24 months of joining the association.

Mary E. Jones, Ed.D,  Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselor, has recently been hired at the Center for Family Medicine in Sioux Falls.  Her experience is both in clinical private practice and  teaching counselor education.   She recently returned from teaching at the University of Victoria in British Columbia.   She will be teaching medical residents as well as seeing clients through the Center for Family Medicine.

The Community HealthCare Association of the Dakotas (CHAD) has partnered with the Wyoming Primary Care Association to form the Great Plains Health Data Network. The GPHDN is a collaboration that will harness the strength of the Health Center Controlled Networks program to support the technical capacity of some of the most remote and under-resourced health centers in the country. The GPHDN is made possible by a three-year grant awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration,  totaling $1.56 million over 3 years.

The incoming class of students University of South Dakota School of Law is one of the largest incoming classes in 10 years. Eighty-seven students representing 14 states comprise the Class of 2022. The class also scored strongly on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) with both the median and 75th percentile scores improving one point from last year at 152 and 154 respectively. 

Karen Daneu will retire as executive director of Susan G. Komen Great Plains in December 2019, after nearly 10 years of service with the organization as volunteer, board member and executive director. This is her second ‘retirement’ after 30 plus years in government service that included 26 years as a U.S. Air Force officer.
