A Sioux Falls coffee-maker is growing its regional footprint.

That was part of the goal when Coffea Roasterie leaders agreed to move its roasting process to a storefront location next to its southwestern Sioux Falls location at 2318 S. Louise Ave.

“Part of our hope with doing it, that was definitely part of the vision was expanding into that particular space,” General Manager Darin Kaihoi said.

Beyond its Sioux Falls shops, Coffea-made coffee is available in a number of area churches and businesses, including the city’s two big health care systems.

The growing local coffee company celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this month by giving away free drip coffee and espresso, and by introducing its new Decade Blend.

The company has added to its growing wholesale business in recent years. Coffee drinkers can find Coffea products in Vermillion in Hartford. The company is also planning to supply coffee to the new La Luna Café coming to downtown Sioux Falls’ Cascade development and is working on reaching out to shops in Iowa, said Dan Sinkgraven, Coffea’s wholesale director.

“We just have to put more emphasis on the sharing part,” Sinkgraven said.

Coffea’s first location, the Louise Avenue shop, opened in 2009. The growing local chain added its second coffee shop at the corner of Phillips Avenue and 10th Street and has since added a third location at Dawley Farms Village in eastern Sioux Falls. Coffea leadership announced a new shop planned for the lobby of the Hotel on Phillips set to open this year in the old Great Western Bank building.

Moving its roasting operations back to Louise Avenue allowed Coffea to bring the coffee-making process closer to home and show it off to people, while also providing a new training space for the company’s nearly 30 staff members, Kaihoi said.

“It’s obviously a huge part of who we are,” he said.
