A popular Sioux Falls chicken restaurant is opening a second location on the east side of the city.

The Keg will open its second restaurant at 5216 E. Arrowhead Parkway in what used to be Noodles and Company. General Manager Becky Mammenga said the restaurant had its eyes open for a new spot and decided to strike while the iron was hot.

"It was a really good opportunity," she said.

The Keg has been a fixture of Sioux Falls dining for 40 years and for its owners, a location on the east side is a sort of homecoming. Neil and Vonnie Larsen, Mammenga's parents, opened the original eatery near 10th Street and Bahnson Avenue before closing in 2012 in the wake of the Great Recession.

"We've always wanted to go (back) to the east side," Vonnie Larsen said. "We're pretty excited about it."

The restaurant was resurrected in 2015 and moved to its current location at 4211 W. 12th St.

At this new restaurant, diners can expect to see old favorites and a similarly-sized dining room, Mammenga said. The Arrowhead Parkway location, however, will have more kitchen space.

The Keg is preparing for an opening around Christmas or New Year's, Larsen said.
