Forever 21's mass closures won't affect Sioux Falls store

This Forever 21 store in Tulare is among those the fashion retailer said could close as part of the company's bankruptcy.

Forever 21 in Sioux Falls will remain open for now, even as the massive retail chain and its affiliates go through bankruptcy proceedings.

The fashion retailer declared bankruptcy late last month, including a list in its court filings of 178 stores that would close as the business sought financial relief from creditors.

The newly opened location at Sioux Falls' Empire Mall was not on the list.

In fact, the Indianapolis-based property firm that owns and operates the Empire Mall is only losing one store among all of its holdings—a Forever 21 at its shopping center in Garden City, New York.

Meanwhile, Simon is listed as Forever 21's largest creditors in its bankruptcy filling. The mall operator is owed $8.1 million in rent, according to court documents

A representative for the Empire Mall declined to comment. Forever 21 representatives did not respond to a request for comment for this story.

USA TODAY has compiled a list of the affected stores.
