As opening day approaches for a new Sioux Falls sandwich shop, customers are already eager to get a taste of Jersey Mike's.

General manager Trent Lunt said prospective customers consistently drive past and peer in the windows of the beach-themed sub shop at 57th Street and Louise Avenue.

"We've probably had 10 or so calls today, seeing if we're open yet," Lunt said. "People are pretty excited about it."

The Point Pleasant, New Jersey-based chain's first South Dakota store is on track to open on Oct. 30. It offers a variety of hot and cold sandwiches that can be made "Mike's Way," with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olive oil blend, red wine vinegar and spices.

Jersey Mike's is also known for its "Juice," a sauce made from red wine vinegar and olive oil.

"It gives it a distinct flavor," Lunt said.

Lunt, who finished culinary school in May, said he was eager to be part of the first Jersey Mike's in South Dakota.

"I wanted to go be part of something that's new and exciting for Sioux Falls," he said. "It's kind of a neat thing to be part of."
