Sioux Falls police say missing teen found safe

Update: Sioux Falls police say that a teenager who was reported missing Monday has been found safe in Minnesota as of 7:10 p.m.

Earlier story: Police are looking for a Sioux Falls girl who has been missing since Monday morning.

Courtney Vander Laan, 13, was last seen around 8 a.m. in southwest Sioux Falls, Sgt. Ryan Flogstad said. She was reported missing after she did not show up for school.

An email sent to parents from Memorial Middle School principal Nancy Hagen said Vanderl Laan is a seventh grader at the school. 

"(She was) last seen this morning when she dropped her younger sibling off at elementary school, but Courtney did not show up for class today at Memorial," Hagen said in the email.

Vander Laan was last known to be wearing a puffy black coat and blue jeans. She is described as thin with dark hair. Anyone who knows where she is is asked to call 911.
