Two Sioux Falls men have been indicted on assault charges for allegedly throwing rocks at a woman and hitting her with a brick while she was holding a 2-year-old, documents say.

Dominick William Jay Ziesemer and Michael Haukoos were each indicted last week by a Minnehaha County grand jury on two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault.

Court documents say Ziesemer, 24, and Haukoos, 41, were in a vehicle with a juvenile female when that vehicle pulled up to a sidewalk where the victim was walking with her cousin, boyfriend and a 2-year-old boy.

The vehicle blocked the path of the sidewalk, and the victim walked to the vehicle toward an open window where the juvenile female was sitting. The victim said a cigarette was being "thrust" at her, so she knocked it out of the juvenile's hand, according to court documents. The juvenile female got out and confronted the victim. The 18-year-old victim told police she was pushed, and she hit the juvenile female.

After this happened, the other two men in the car — identified by the victim's boyfriend as Ziesemer and Haukoos — reportedly got out of the vehicle, pushed the victim, kicked her stomach and stomped on her right hand, according to court documents. She was holding the 2-year-old when the assault occurred, she told police.

The victim also reported being hit on the back of the head by a thrown brick, and then said one of the men "smashed" her hand with a piece of it while she was on the ground, according to court documents.

The victim had cuts on the back of her head and a possible broken hand, documents say.

The victim's boyfriend immediately ran from the scene and watched from behind a nearby building. He took off because the people who "beat and jumped" the victim were people whose home he had burglarized earlier this summer, and he didn't want to cause any more trouble, documents say. He was interviewed by police as a witness to the assault.

The incident occurred in July and an affidavit for an arrest warrant was filed in October. Warrants were served later in October, and the indictment was returned Nov 28.

Both men were given personal recognizance bonds and ordered not to have contact with the victim.

Haukoos and Ziesemer denied being present for the incident, and said they found out what happened from the juvenile female. Information on whether the juvenile female was charged in juvenile court was not immediately available.
