Sioux Falls police say a Sunday shooting that left a man with a leg injury was likely drug-related.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, officers were called to the area of 85th Street and South Townsley Avenue after people reported hearing gunshots, police spokesman Sam Clemens said. Officers found a blood trail nearby but did not find a victim.

At about the same time, a 21-year-old Sioux Falls man showed up at a Sioux Falls hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg, Clemens said. He brought along an 18-year-old friend who is also from Sioux Falls.

The two men told police conflicting stories, Clemens said, but police believe the incident was drug-related.

The men allegedly told police that they met another person at an apartment near where the shooting occurred and got into a car with that person and a fourth person, who had a gun. There was a struggle, Clemens said, and the gun went off, striking the man in the calf.

Police say neither the victim nor his 18-year-old friend knew the name of the man with the gun. The victim was treated at the hospital and released.
