One person has died in a shooting that left two others injured in east-central Sioux Falls on Saturday.

Larry Eugene Carr Jr., 42, of Sioux Falls died Monday morning after being shot in the torso, Capt. Blaine Larsen said.

A second man who was shot in the torso was released and a third man who was shot in the head is still in the hospital, Larsen said. They are ages 20 and 24, both from Sioux Falls.

Larry Eugene Carr Jr., 42, was injured in a triple shooting on Saturday, June 8, 2019. He died early Monday, June 10.

Material witness warrants have been issued for three people, whom Larsen says likely left Sioux Falls:

Ramon Deron Smith, 34, is believed to be the shooter, police say. He is described as a black man standing 6 feet tall and weighing 207 pounds with long dreadlocks. He is not from Sioux Falls. Smith was allegedly driven from the scene of the shooting in a black 2000 Buick Park Avenue with South Dakota license plate 1AP416.

According to Minnesota criminal records, Smith was convicted of aiding and abetting attempted first-degree murder for his involvement in a drive-by shooting in Burnsville, Minnesota in 2011. He was also convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2006.

Police say Smith may be heading to Chicago or Minneapolis, where he has ties.

Martece Arielle Saddler, 30, is Smith's sister, police say. She lives in Sioux Falls and is described as a black woman standing 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds.

Christina Lesharenee Haney, 22, is also believed to have been at the scene of the shooting, police say. She is described as a black woman standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds. She is believed to be driving a white 2007 Mercedes GL with dealer plates.

Police had also been looking for a blue 2000 Ford F-150 pickup, which dropped one of the victims off at the hospital, but later said it had been found.

Police are asking for the public for help in piecing together the events of the shooting, and said many of the people involved, including the victims, are not being cooperative.

Social media dispute may have led to shooting

The shooting may be connected to a larger fight that took place the day before in the 1000 block of East Third Street when a man was waving a gun around, Larsen said. Larsen said eight people arrived at an apartment complex in the 100 block of N. Cliff Avenue to continue the altercation. Five of the eight people have been identified.

Police also say there may have been some "back and forth" arguments over social media that led up to the shooting, but are still trying to piece the situation together.

"Citizens out there probably have a little more back story about what may be going on in this group," Larsen said.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot, and two people were transported to the hospital by witnesses. One was still on scene when police arrived, Larsen said.

Warrants are likely to be issued for Smith and others later Monday, Larsen said.

Surveillance video caught the shooting, which took place about 20 seconds after a police car drove by, showing the brazenness of the violence, Larsen said.

"In some cases, these guys just don't care," Larsen said. "

Police have not yet found the gun, but ballistics indicate it is a semi-automatic handgun.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the three persons of interest is asked to call Crimestoppers or police.

"Stay vigilant, call if something don't look right," Larsen said.
