One dead in Aurora County car crash

One person died after a two-vehicle car crash on Friday about two miles east of Plankinton, according to South Dakota Highway Patrol.

A 79-year-old man was a passenger in a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer headed northbound on U.S. Highway 281 around 2:40 p.m. on Friday when the man failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign at the South Dakota Highway 16 intersection, the Highway Patrol said. The Trailblazer collided with a 2012 Ford F-250 Pickup driven by a 77-year-old man and the Trailblazer went into the east ditch, according to a news release.

Both drivers sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. The 79-year-old man died of his injuries on Monday.

Both men driving in the Trailblazer were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the pickup was not.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
