A Sioux Falls woman has been arrested after police say she lit her boyfriend's clothes on fire and tried to burn their house down last weekend.

Twyla Dawn Eagle, 37, was charged with two counts of reckless burning, domestic aggravated assault, driving while intoxicated, a hit-and-run, and driving while her license is revoked, police spokesman Sam Clemens said.

Officers responded to the report of an arson call between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday at a house in the 1400 block of North Dakota Avenue.

The woman at the residence, Eagle, ended up taking her boyfriend's clothes outside and set them on fire. It's unclear what she used to set the fire, Clemens said.

Eagle left before officers arrived. The fire wasn't large, but she also may have made a comment about trying to set her house on fire, too, Clemens said. Officers couldn't find her at the time, though.

About an hour later, police received a call about the same house with a report of a fire inside the home's screen door. That fire was also put out with minimal to no damage, Clemens said. Eagle also ended up hitting a car when she returned to the house.

"There were some people nearby who witnessed that, and they knew it was the same woman they saw light the fire (earlier)," Clemens said.

Officers were going to make sure no one was injured inside the home, but weren't able to because of heavy smoke. Officers, however, heard some noise in a backyard and discovered Eagle in the neighbor's yard, Clemens said.

It's unclear where the aggravated assault charges come in, but Clemens said he thinks it's because Eagle believed her boyfriend was in the house at the time of the second fire.
