Hemp supporters plan to gather in Pierre on Monday for "South Dakota Hemp Day."

Hemp Day will take place from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Ramkota in Pierre, according to a South Dakota Farmers Union announcement. During the event, information will be provided on growing hemp, the markets for hemp byproducts, the industries involved in hemp and how to advocate for hemp in South Dakota, according to the Farmers Union announcement.

South Dakota is one of three states where hemp isn't legal, although it was legalized at the federal level in the 2018 Farm Bill, and a committee of legislators have been working to ready a bill legalizing it during the 2020 session. The committee's next meeting is scheduled for noon Monday at the Capitol in Pierre.

The South Dakota Farmers Union supports the passage of an industrial hemp bill next year.
