Veda Faye Horton

Veda Faye Horton, 86, daughter of Thurman and Edna Smith, was born in Oxford, Ark. She departed this life on July 27, 2020 in Maumelle, Ark. Veda lived many places during her life, including Barstow, Calif., Wichita, Kan., Mounds, Okla.; Ash Flat, Calico Rock, and Batesville, Ark. She raised her girls in Calico Rock and while there became a member of the Presbyterian church. She loved to ride horses, especially her quarterhorse, Baby Doll. She enjoyed sewing and made many items detailed with silk ribbon embroidery, and in later years, comfort quilts which she gifted to family and friends. She also was fond of crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She is survived by three daughters: Karen Guthrie Stroud of Durham, N.C., Rhonda Horton-Williams of Maumelle, and Cynthia Alford (Bob) of McNeil; five grandchildren, Leslie Neel of Alameda, Calif., Sunshine Cagle of Bixby, Okla., Blaine Horton of Fayetteville, Ark., A.J. Stroud of Raleigh, N.C, and Haley Stroud of Jacksonville, NC; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon E. Horton; one daughter, Shelley Horton; sons-in-law, Douglas Guthrie, Samuel Stroud and Frank Williams; her parents; two brothers, R.V. Smith and Juney Smith; and one sister, Hazel Qualls. A memorial service is planned for a future date due to current situation and safety concerns.
