Smoke billowing from rear of Armagh bar gutted in fire just two weeks ago

Northern bar fire

Emergency services have been called to the scene of a fire on Railway Street in Armagh.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the rear of a property – believed to be the Northern Bar – which was gutted in an arson attack a fortnight ago.

The fire was spotted just after 7am by passing motorists.

The bar, which had been badly destroyed, opened over the weekend and hosted a St Patrick’s party in the courtyard to the rear.

A marquee and temporary bar had been erected to host the event.

The severity of the fire is unknown at this stage.

Speaking at the time, Inspector Gary Moore, said: “Following an inspection of the premises we believe that entry had been gained to the bar sometime in the early hours of this morning and the bar then ransacked and set alight.

“We are also investigating an incident at Mullacreevie Park, where a white Audi A6 car was set alight shortly before 5am [that] morning.

“We are currently working to establish if both incidents are linked.

“Our inquiries are at an early stage and I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Railway Street area, or at Mullacreevie Park, to contact officers in Armagh on 101 quoting reference number 182 04/03/19.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
