An Augusta grandmother is asking for financial assistance this Christmas.

She writes that her grandson is now staying with her because his mother can't handle him because of his mental health issues. She says she doesn't have money to buy him anything for Christmas, which she would like to do.

"I don't really have nothing," she writes. "That's why I was asking for assistance this year."

The Augusta Chronicle’s Empty Stocking Fund has helped make Christmas better for those who needed it for 88 years now. The fund has helped people such as this since 1930. Last year, the charity raised nearly $100,000 for children and families across the region.

Donations can be made online at augustachronicle.com/emptystocking, or by mail to the Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 31358, Augusta, GA 30903. They can be dropped off at the cashier’s office at the News Building weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m or at the Community Foundation for the CSRA, 720 St. Sebastian Way, Suite 160. The deadline to apply for Empty Stocking Fund assistance was Nov. 9.

The Empty Stocking Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization, making donations tax-deductible.
