Dog attacks elderly woman in North Augusta

The North Augusta Department of Public Safety is investigating a dog attack.

A Rottweiler attacked an elderly woman around 1:30 p.m. at a residence on the 200 block of Bridle Path Drive, according to the department. The victim sustained serious injures to her arms and legs. She was taken to Medical College of Georgia hospital for further evaluation.

The dog was a family pet and is currently in the custody of Animal Control with Public Safety, according to the department. The cause of the attack remains unclear, but investigators believed it was not provoked.
