Jimmy Raines, 17, of Johns Road, Augusta, won the eighth International Jaycee Golf Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.

A Richmond Academy standout, Raines defeated John Schubeck of Detroit by six strokes in a playoff, and finished the competition at the University of Michigan golf course with rounds of 74, 78, 75, 70 and 75.

The quiet and serious son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Raines plans to enter North Carolina's Davidson College in coming weeks to begin study for the ministry.

He clinched his claim to the state's top junior golfer by winning the Georgia Jaycees Tournament in Columbus, then moving on to the national competition.

Over the past two years Raines has won the Augusta junior championship and the Augusta Country Club junior championship.
