Crash in Burke County leaves two dead

Two people died Monday morning in a car crash in Burke County.

Gregory Lewis Wingrove, 28, of Augusta, and Johnny Lee Weintraub, 32, of Aiken, were killed in a head-on collision in the 4900 block of River Road. Wingrove was driving a Toyota Corolla, when he crossed the center-line and hit Weintraub's Honda Accord, according to Georgia State Patrol. 

The collision occurred around 4 a.m., Weintraub was taken to AU Medical Center, where he died, the Burke County Sheriff's Office said. Both were Vogtle employees with one leaving work and one going to work.

"The entire Vogtle family mourns the loss of two individuals who worked on the Vogtle 3&4 project, following this morning’s traffic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families," Georgia Power said in a statement Monday.
