A fatal shooting late Monday marked the 33rd homicide in Richmond County this year, surpassing the total in 2018.

There were 32 homicides last year.

Deputies responded at 11:10 p.m. to the 1100 block of 10th Avenue and found Michael Holt, 34, with at least one gunshot wound, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.  Holt was taken to AU Medical Center where he died at 11:57 p.m.

The Richmond County Sheriff's and Coroner's offices are investigating.

Holt's body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

The shooting was the third homicide in October and second in the past three days. Ryan Lovett, 20, died after being shot in the 2800 block of Lumpkin Road on Saturday, while Devante Green, 24, died after being shot in the 2100 block of Lumpkin Road on Oct. 13.

The sheriff's office had no comment on the number of homicides surpassing last year's total.
