Downtown Augusta is getting a steakhouse.

An item going before the city Historic Preservation Commission on Thursday shows McKnight Properties is requesting a certificate of appropriateness for a new restaurant in the 1200 block of Broad Street.

The location, which is currently vacant, is sandwiched between Frog Hollow Tavern and the Hyatt House Hotel. It’s owned by Hyatt developer DTJR, which is a family-owned partnership run by McKnight vice president John Engler, according to previous Chronicle reports.

The certificate application calls the restaurant “hotel steakhouse,” but it’s unclear if the steakhouse will be part of the hotel.

The steakhouse will bring the number of downtown eateries to around 35. In the 900 block of Broad, the cafe Beans and Bites opened in June and a second Laziza Mediterranean Grill location is expected to open by the end of the year.
