Hephzibah Middle teacher arrested for alleged relationship with student

A Hephzibah Middle School teacher was arrested and charged after reports she allegedly was having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Rumah Byrapaka, 24, of Evans, was arrested and charged with child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. She was booked at Charles B. Webster Center Thursday.

According to the Richmond County School System, the mother of the student reported the alleged relationship between her 13-year-old son and Byrapaka. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Richmond County Board of Education Police began an investigation Wednesday, which led to the arrest.

She has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to the school system.
