Two teens arrested in fatal shooting of Aiken man in Augusta

Marqwez Warney, 23, was charged with murder, criminal attempt (felony) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in reference to the shooting-death of 23-year old Marquan Patten on the morning of July 14.

Two teenagers were arrested and charged in the shooting death of an Aiken man in Augusta Tuesday.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said Marquan Patten, also known as Marquan Doyle, 23, was found shot in a vehicle on Service Drive just off Milledge Road. He was pronounced dead at 3:36 a.m. at the scene.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Marqwez Warney, 17, and Lewis Wigfall, 16, were shot during the incident and treated AU Medical Center.

Investigators later arrested both teens. Warney was charged with murder, criminal attempt (felony) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Wigfall, who is being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center, was charged as an adult with murder.
