'Hotel California' drew raves in Vegas

The Eagles recently performed three sold-out "Hotel California" concerts in Las Vegas. These shows marked the first time the Eagles had ever performed the "Hotel California" album in full.

Billboard magazine said of the opening night: “The band performed the album from front to back, following with a blazing greatest hits set that had the audience at the sold-out arena constantly on its feet. … A 23-song set of solid hits that make up the soundtrack of any Baby Boomer or Gen X’ers lives. With no exception, the songs have aged well, but how could they fail with the Eagles’ five-part harmony and five guitar-approach. … (Henley’s) voice sounded as strong and pliant as it ever has, easily hitting the highest of notes, while retaining his trademark huskiness.”

Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, with two Grammy Awards for the hit singles "New Kid in Town" and "Hotel California." Their "Greatest Hits 1971-1977" is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times platinum.

The Eagles were inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The Eagles at Taking Stick Resort Arena

They played in Phoenix at Talking Stick Resort Arena (now the Footprint Center) in 2018, their first tour since the death of founding member Glenn Frey.

By the time the concert ended with a gorgeous take on "Desperado," as The Arizona Republic wrote, "any doubts that lingered going into Saturday's performance as to whether this new lineup should even exist had long since been erased.

As a tribute to the Eagles' legacy, to Glenn Frey's memory and to all their music ever meant to all those fans who paid to see the Eagles of 2018? It was as close to flawless as a fan had any right to dream it would be."
