A man suspected of fleeing the scene of a fatal motorcycle collision early Sunday was arrested shortly after by officers, Phoenix police said in a statement.

Moses Seth Tasco, 23, is suspected of running a red light at the intersection of 24th street and McDowell Road around 12:40 a.m. striking 38-year-old Carlos Ruben Martinez on his motorcycle, police said.

Martinez was traveling southbound on 24th street and entered the intersection on a green light when Tasco, who was driving east on McDowell road, failed to stop at the red light in his sedan and collided with Martinez, police said.

Police said, Martinez was thrown from the motorcycle and was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

According to police, Tasco fled the scene of the crash on foot and was later found by officers as he was walking away from the scene.

Impairment is believed to be a factor, police said.

The investigation remains on-going.

Tasco was booked one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

Sunday's collision was the second fatal motorcycle accident that took place on 24th street within 24 hours.

Around 6:13 a.m. on Saturday a motorcyclist died after colliding with a trailer being towed by a vehicle making a U-turn at 24th street and Riverview Drive, just north of the Salt River, police said.

Police say the 33-year-old driver was attempting to make a U-turn from the northbound lane of 24th street to go south.

Mark Seely, 51, was also driving his motorcycle northbound on 24th street when he collided with the trailer, police said.

Seely was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The other driver was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

Police did not state if impairment or speed were factors in the collision.
