A man killed last week during a fight over his damaged car at Deer Valley Park was stabbed nine times — twice in the neck, according to court records.

Eldon Sandoval, 24, was in the park with 21-year-old Chantel Ben and her brother Maurice James, 18, as they were standing near a tan 2000 Toyota Camry sedan early Wednesday, according to documents filed by Phoenix police in Maricopa County Superior Court. The park is located on 19th Avenue just south of the Loop 101 Freeway in Phoenix.

The trio was confronted by the owner of the vehicle, 23-year-old Isaac Clark, and two friends who questioned why they were standing near the car. There was an argument and physical altercation, but then the fight broke up and both sides separated, the documents stated.

A short time later, Sandoval and James allegedly broke out the windows to the vehicle and jumped on the roof, damaging it, the court papers say. Clark ran back to the car and confronted Sandoval, James and Ben.

Maurice James

Another fight erupted, during which Clark was stabbed nine times, police said in the documents. He was taken to a hospital where he died shortly before 2:30 a.m., according to the court documents.

Sandoval and Ben were arrested in the area of  21st Street and West Behrend Drive. James was found at an apartment on West Beardsley Road and taken into custody.

In interviews later with police, Sandoval admitted he was carrying a knife and stabbed Clark. He also said James had a knife, and police determined both had stabbed Clark, the documents stated.

Chantel Ben

Sandoval admitted to kicking the windshield of the car and jumping on the roof while James broke the windows, according to the documents.

The knife used by Sandoval was found in Ben's purse.

Sandoval and James face second-degree murder charges, and Ben faces hindering prosecution charges, according to court documents.

Sandoval and James are scheduled to appear in court again Thursday. They are being held without bond at a Maricopa County jail. Ben is set to appear in court on Oct. 23.
