Police are looking for information about a drive-by shooting where a bullet grazed the head of a 14-year-old driver of a vehicle, officials said.

Police say the shooting happened about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, when a 14-year-old boy was driving a white 2004 Chevrolet sedan westbound on Maryland Avenue approaching 37th Avenue.

As a red SUV with two male occupants passed the white car on the driver's side, one of the SUV's occupants fired a gun at the car, causing it to run off the road, through several yards and collide with a parked vehicle, the Phoenix Police Department said in a news release.

The 14-year-old driver of the white car had three passengers: two 16-year-olds and one 18-year-old, police said. The four fled the scene on foot.

"Two of the victims knocked on a neighborhood door near the scene and the homeowner let them in," Phoenix police said. "The other two, including the injured 14-year-old driver, were located in the area of 3900 W. Tuckey (Lane)."

The 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with a graze wound to the head, and police say his injury is not life-threatening. The 18-year-old was reported to have a cut to the hand while the two 16-year-olds were not injured, police said.

The two people in the SUV fled. Investigators believe the shooting may be part of an ongoing dispute, officials said.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141.
