Brush fire burns in Gila riverbed in Avondale

A brush fire is currently burning at El Mirage Road, near Indian Springs Road and Gila River Shore in the river bottom in Avondale, according to a tweet from the Goodyear Fire Department. 

The fire is approximately one acre, according to a Facebook post from the Central Arizona Wildland Reponse Team and is burning  “heavy fuels in the river bottom being pushed by high winds,” the post said.

In their tweet, Goodyear Fire officials warned residents to avoid the area, as there is an abundance of smoke. They said people who are having trouble breathing should stay inside.

There is no known cause for the fire at this time, according to Goodyear Fire Department officials.
