Another day, another transfer that was reportedly considering the Arizona Wildcats ending up going somewhere else.
The latest to do so is Florida Gulf Coast’s Haanif Cheatham, a 6-foot-5 guard who began his career at Marquette.

Arizona was one of five schools being considered by Cheatham, along with Arkansas, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech. Each was interested in his shooting and defensive skills despite an injury-plagued career that limited him to just 10 games last season in his lone year with FGCU, averaging 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds on 45.4 percent shooting.
At Marquette, from 2005-18, he averaged 10.1 points and shot 47.2 percent, including 36.7 percent from three. He was the Eagles’ defensive MVP in each of his first two seasons.
Cheatham is the latest transfer linked to Arizona to opt for another school, decisions undoubtedly affected by Arizona’s lack of an official spot on the roster. Since sophomore guard Brandon Randolph is technically part of the roster while he tests the NBA Draft waters, the Wildcats can’t guarantee his spot will be available.
That being said, Arizona is still in the mix for two transfers: UC Irvine grad transfer guard Max Hazzard and Nevada forward Jordan Brown, a former All-American who had the Wildcats as a finalist when he signed out of high school a year ago.
