Man’s body found in Bill Jones Alley, Annapolis police say no signs of foul play

Annapolis police launched a death investigation — as is standard practice — after they learned Tuesday of dead man’s body in Eastport’s Bill Jones Alley.

Officers do not suspect any foul play contributed to the 60-year-old’s death, but are investigating how he died and ended up in the alley, said Sgt. Amy Miguez, police spokeswoman.

A passerby called police around midday after discovering an unconscious man on the ground in the alleyway, Miguez said.

She said his body does not appear to have been in the alley long.

The alley runs behind a stretch of houses in Eastport between Chesapeake Avenue and Chester Avenue. It also abuts the Eastport Democratic Club.

Police believe the man was in the area doing lawn work and officers’ preliminary investigation suggests he suffered some kind of medical emergency, Miguez said.

As such, Miguez said, police are likely to look into his medical history and talk to his doctors.

Miguez said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner collected the man’s body and transported it to its facility in Baltimore for an autopsy, which is expected to give police more information about what exactly caused his death.
