Baltimore Police said six people were shot four fatally across the city Sunday, marking the deadliest day this month.

As Maryland continues to grapple with the coronavirus under Gov. Larry Hogan’s “Safer at Home” order, the city is still under a stay-at-home directive from Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young. The last time four people were killed in the city in a single day was April 27. So far this year, 118 people have been killed, according to Baltimore Sun data.

The Sunday shootings continued a violent Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore. Three people were killed in separate incidents Saturday, according to police.

Baltimore City Council President Brandon Scott said that “frustrated does not come close” to describe his emotions about the spate of violence.

“Another Memorial Day weekend with families and communities across Baltimore being terrorized by gun violence,” he said in a tweet Sunday night. “I always say no one is exempt. Nothing will rattle you more than a having to talk to your grandmother about someone being shot outside her house and bleeding on her truck.”

Scott, who’s running for mayor, also said “we can, must and will do better” and emphasized the need to be tougher on crime and tracing guns while continuing to invest in people.

Police were called to the Frankford neighborhood in Northeast Baltimore just after 8 p.m. after an officer heard gunfire.

Earlier Sunday, police also responded to a fatal shooting in Arlington.

Police said they were called to the intersection of Cuthbert and Belvedere avenues just before 3 p.m. for a shooting. When officers arrived in the Northwest Baltimore neighborhood, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the 5100 block of Litchfield Ave.

The man, identified as 34-year-old Donald Foster of Saunton, Virginia, was transported to Sinai Hospital where he later died, police said.

About 21/2 hours earlier police were summoned to Southwest Baltimore for a shooting.

Police said they were called to the 2100 block of Wilkens Ave. around 12:25 p.m. when officers heard gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived in the Carrollton Ridge neighborhood, they found an 18-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. Police did not provide his condition.
