MY name is Lleucu and I am your elected representative for the Welsh Youth Parliament for the Vale of Glamorgan.

It’s early days with my role in the youth parliament and we will be having our first meeting at the end of this month.

I stood on three campaigns and am pleased to say that one of them seems to have been agreed by the Vale council cabinet, subject to consultation.

Officers have recommended that Ysgol Sant Baruc primary school should be relocated to the Waterfront in a new building.

For the first time, children will be able to enjoy dinners in their own school and enjoy more play time in their lunch breaks.

I have also met with the Vale Youth Forum and their cabinet.

Like me, these are young people in the Vale who have been elected to voice the concerns of young people with those in power.

It was really good to discuss issues which we could raise on behalf our peers at both a Vale council and Welsh Assembly level.

Getting support for mental health issues is of particular concern amongst young people.

This is especially so when one considers the stress that young people are prone to as they face the twin pressures of growing up and sitting GCSE’s and A-levels.

Two other issues I campaigned on were the dumping of radioactive mud from Hinkley Point on Welsh shores and the incinerator in Barry.

I hope that both can stopped this year.

Young people and particularly babies are very vulnerable to air pollution and I aim to raise awareness that this is one of the biggest killers of people today.

Please also feel free to get in touch with me about any issues that you would like me to raise on your behalf – whatever your age!
