Sonya Brown is a member of the Albion City Council.

A recall election for Albion City Precinct 3 Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem Sonya Brown will take place this November.

The Calhoun County Clerk-Elections Office received recall petitions in June for Brown.

The petitions were reviewed, the opportunity for challenges expired, and it was determined the petitions contain the minimum number of valid signatures needed to initiate a recall election.

The recall language, submitted by Bruce Nelson, a registered voter in Albion's Precinct 3, focused on an electronic message Brown sent to former city manager LaTonya Rufus telling Rufus to remove Scott Kipp as the head of Albion's Public Safety Department.

An election on the recall will take place in the city of Albion, Precinct 3 on Nov. 5, 2019.
