#CelebrateSeniors: Qualifying for states a huge moment for Lakeview's Taylor Wilsey

Enquirer is running #CelebrateSeniors series to showcase spring athletes of the Class of 2020 who will not get a chance to play

Lakeview senior Taylor Wilsey has been a standout on the Spartan track team her entire high school career.

In our quest to cover sports, we have seen the frustration from athletes, coaches and officials regarding the current landscape surrounding cancellations due to the coronavirus.

The biggest lament by many is that current seniors have had their final season yanked away by the virus.

We believe these days cannot pass without a recognition of the effort by this year’s group of seniors and the Class of 2020. And they should not.

The Enquirer is going to help in that with our #CelebrateSeniors series, which will run throughout the spring sports season.

We will showcase seniors from area high schools and let them tell the stories of their senior years and have their coaches ponder what could have been.

We are aiming to highlight as many seniors as we can. We wish every senior could be in these pages, yet sadly that is not possible. But know you are represented here as well.

Name: Taylor Wilsey

School: Lakeview

Spring Sport: Girls Track

Career Highlights: All-City champ in 1,600 relay, 800 relay, 400 relay; All-conference champ in 1,600 relay, 800 relay, 400 relay; State qualifier; Helped team to All-City girls track title three times

What Makes This Senior A Standout? (according to coach) "Taylor loves track and field and she would do anything for her team, including moving up to run the 400 her junior year. Before that she did not believe she could do it, let alone be good at it. Taylor is an exceptional young lady who will accomplish great things along her journey, I am just blessed to have had the opportunity to work with such an outstanding person and I am sad we did not get to finish out her career as we had planned. I know that she will do amazing things next year as she will continue her love for track and field running for Olivet College," Lakeview coach Becky Pryor said.

Other Key Seniors for Your Team: Bryanna Carey, Kyra Jones, Katelynne Nagel, Katie Rogers, Kaylee Ross and Angel Wachera

Favorite High School Sports Moment in Spring Sport: "My favorite high school moment would have to be when my 4x400 team qualified for states. We were all dying to finish first or second to qualify to get our seniors to states before they left... and we did," Wilsey said.

What I Will Miss Most Now That There Won’t Be Spring Sports: "Now that our season is terminated, I will definitely miss my fellow seniors whom I've ran with for years, and how my last chance to be with them was taken away. I will also miss my underclassmen friends and I can't wait to come back and watch them next year," Wilsey said.
