Lakeview seniors Jackson Kitchen and Kosta Sevastopoulos goof off in the gym as school is dismissed at 10:55 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer closed K-12 schools to limit the spread of COVID-19. Sevastopoulos and Kitchen's senior year of baseball is suspended indefinitely due to the presence of COVID-19 in Michigan.

In our quest to cover sports, we have seen the frustration from athletes, coaches and officials regarding the current landscape surrounding cancellations due to the coronavirus.

The biggest lament by many is that current seniors have had their final season yanked away by the virus.

We believe these days cannot pass without a recognition of the effort by this year’s group of seniors and the Class of 2020. And they should not.

The Enquirer is going to help in that with our #CelebrateSeniors series, which will run throughout the spring sports season.

MORE #CelebrateSeniors

We will showcase seniors from area high schools and let them tell the stories of their senior years and have their coaches ponder what could have been.

We are aiming to highlight as many seniors as we can. We wish every senior could be in these pages, yet sadly that is not possible. But know you are represented here as well.

What Makes This Senior A Standout? (according to coach) "Kosta is a fierce competitor. He loves the game of baseball. He is a gamer. Every time he steps foot on a baseball field he is in his element, he is having fun, he is competing at a high level, and he is confident in his own and his team's ability to be successful," Lakeview coach Kyle Kracht said.

Other Key Seniors for Your Team: Jack Goodman, Jackson Kitchen, Logan Komarck, Jared Plane, Blake Laws, Jake Siddall, Nate Glubke, Reede Ratliff

Favorite High School Sports Moment in Spring Sport: "My favorite memory was simply just being with my team and having fun. There's nothing like having fun with my best friends," Sevastopoulos said.

What I Will Miss Most Now That There Won’t Be Spring Sports: "What I will miss most is playing with my best friends that I may not speak to again after we part ways. I will miss being a Spartan," Sevastopoulos said.
