Lakeview standout Jack Goodman has accepted an offer to be a preferred walk-on for the Eastern Michigan University football team.

Jack Goodman had a dream season for the Lakeview football team last fall.

Now, he wants some more of his dreams to come true.

After being the star player for a Spartan team that went undefeated in the regular season, Goodman decided to chase his goal to play Division 1 football.

And he will get that chance as he has accepted an offer to join the Eastern Michigan University football team in the fall as a preferred walk-on.

"It was always my dream to play Division 1 football, ever since I was a kid, and this is  my chance," Goodman said. "I feel like if I can get on the team, I can prove myself and eventually earn some playing time and earn a scholarship."

A two-way standout for Lakeview, Goodman lined up at quarterback and was also the quarterback of the defense at middle linebacker. Goodman led Lakeview to a 9-0 regular season and was the signal-caller for a dangerous running game, often keeping the ball and scoring on his own as he finished with more than 1,100 yards rushing.

Also among the leaders on the team in tackles, he helped the defense hold opponents to 10 points per game in the regular season and earned all-league honors as Lakeview finished first in the SMAC East Division.

Goodman is slated to play linebacker or safety at Eastern Michigan and will enroll later in the summer.

Goodman had an offer to accept a scholarship to play at Concordia University and was looking to make a commitment on Signing Day, but held off thinking there was still a chance at EMU.

"On Signing Day I was about to sign when my teammates were going to sign, but a couple weeks earlier I had sent the Eastern Michigan coach a text saying I was looking for a chance to be a preferred walk-on, sent my tape and hoped he would get back to me," Goodman said. "About that time, I got a text from the Eastern Michigan coach who said he was interested, wanted me to visit, and it went from there.

"I talked to my parents, talked to Coach (Jerry) Diorio and I decided this was going to be a perfect fit."
