2020 NFL Draft: What Should The Texans Do With The 57th Overall Pick?

Your Houston Texans have just one card in the top 100 selections of the 2020 NFL Draft. The 57th overall pick. While we’re all fully aware of where the other picks went and why this lonely pick is sitting here out in the cold, what the Texans will do with it is another matter.

TEXANS 2020 NFL DRAFT PICKS:

• 2nd round (57th overall)
• 4th round (from Miami, TBD)
• 4th round (TBD)
• 5th round (TBD)
• 7th round (TBD)

The folks at Draftsite have the Texans using that first selection on a cornerback. And they list out the bevy of other late picks (several presumably based on compensatory status), including two 4th rounders and three 7th rounders, Bill O’Brien and Co. will have at their disposal.

The Texans might not be able to land an equivalent to Deshaun Watson this year, but the annals of NFL Draft history are littered with great players taken long past the end of the first round, including Tom Brady, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Matt Birk, Shane Lechler, Mike Webster, Shannon Sharpe, Kirk Cousins, Rodney Harrison, Jared Allen, Richard Dent, Richard Sherman, Kevin Greene, Julian Edelman, Elvis Dumervil, Jahri Evans, Robert Mathis and many more.

That doesn’t count some of the undrafted greats, like, say, Arian Foster and Warren Moon.

So while on the surface it might seem like the sign over the door of the Texans’ draft room reads “Abandon Hope, All Ye Who Enter,” if the Texans can put together a top flight draft class with what they have at their disposal, miracles can happen.
