Swansea fire: Crews tackle fire on roof of block of flats

Fire crews battled a fire on the roof of a block of flats in Swansea city centre.

The fire service said it was called to the former Oldway House, on Alexandra Road, at about 18:45 GMT on Sunday.

Four appliances were sent from Swansea Central, Morriston, Swansea West and Gorseinon and the blaze was quickly brought under control.

The building had been undergoing a £24m renovation for student accommodation.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said roofing materials had caught fire on the roof of the 14-floor building.

The fire service said crews used extinguishers and buckets of water to bring it under control.

Fire crews and police searched the building before leaving the scene at 20:36.

Eye witness Christina Thomas caught the developing situation on camera.
