The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital has held on to its Care Quality Commission rating of "good".
The independent regulator described a "strong caring culture" with staff committed to putting patients' needs first in its inspection report released on Tuesday.

Building changes call after fire barriers found missing
Richard Whitehouse
Local Democracy Reporting Service
Cornwall councillors are set to be asked to support a call on the government to give back responsibility for building control to local councils in a bid to improve the quality of homes being built by developers.
Under the current system, developers can choose their own approved regulator to undertake building control and checks.
But Threemilestone Liberal Democrat councillor Dulcie Tudor said she was leading a bid to have this returned to local councils amid fears the current system was open to abuse because "any company or person... can choose who regulates them".
The issue with fire safety barriers affected more than 1,000 homes built by Persimmon and included 160 homes at Lowen Bre in Truro. The barriers stop the spread of fires and potentially save lives.
Cornwall Council has written to Persimmon asking how many homes in Cornwall are affected and what the company is doing to rectify the problem, but said it had not received a satisfactory response.
Ms Tudor will present her motion to the next full meeting of Cornwall Council on 21 May.
Responding to the BBC last month about fire barriers in new homes, Persimmon said it had "identified this as an issue in its south west region" and checks were "ongoing".
Ringing in support: Museum has first St Agnes phone number
The first ever phone number in St Agnes is back in use as the new number for the village's museum trust.
St Agnes 1 was allocated to the post office in 1928 and, over the years, morphed into a six-digit figure as more subscribers got telephones.
In its last incarnation, it was St Agnes (01872) 552301 in a redundant phone box.
Trust chairman Roger Radcliffe explains, that number has now been revived with the help of BT, and is the new number for the trust...
