Wolverhampton death crash boy was 'life and soul' of class

A boy killed alongside his brother in a car crash has been described as the life and soul of his class.

The tribute to 10-year-old Sanjay Singh came from the head teacher at Cotwall End Primary School in Dudley where he lived.

Claire Williams said the school community was "devastated" by his death in Wolverhampton on Thursday.

A man arrested on Sunday in connection with the crash has been released under investigation.

Sanjay and Pawanveer Singh, aged 23 months, were in a BMW driven by their mother when it was in collision with an Audi S3.

The 23-year-old released on Monday night had been arrested on suspicion of causing the brothers' deaths by dangerous driving.

His release follows that of a 31-year-old who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of the same offence.

That man was described previously as the driver of a third car, a Bentley. He was also released under investigation.

Ms Williams said: "We are all completely devastated at the loss of our much loved pupil Sanjay Singh and his younger brother.

"Sanjay was a lively and fun boy who was the life and soul of the class, it was an absolute privilege and joy to teach him at our school and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him."

The car in which he was travelling was hit as it turned off Birmingham New Road into Lawnswood Avenue at about 20:45 GMT on Thursday.

The boys were pronounced dead at the scene. Their mother received hospital treatment but was later released.

Police said the Audi driver fled on foot.
